Rehabilitation Psychology

Rehabilitation psychology is a subspecialty practice within the field of clinical psychology that applies psychological principles and methods to assess and treat individuals with acute or chronic disabilities. A rehabilitation psychologist strives to work closely with an individual with such disabilities, as well as with their family, to maximize recovery and optimal return to prior physical, psychological and social functioning. In his practice as a rehabilitation psychologist, Dr. Mikesell formerly provided consultation in neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology as a member of an interdisciplinary team at The Centers at St. Camillus in Syracuse, NY, a local regionally accredited subacute brain injury treatment center. He is also an adjunct clinical faculty member in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Upstate Medical University hospital, where he collaborated to help establish a post-doctoral fellowship on rehabilitation psychology. In this role, Dr. Mikesell offers guest lectures to doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows in various subspecialties of psychology.

Dr. Mikesell is Board Certified in Rehabilitation Psychology by the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology (ABRP/ABPP).
